This picture was taken on Friday, September 7, 2013. We read the book Are You There Baby Bear. We then created masks to go with the book.

Hello 2013-2014 kindergarten families!
I would like to extend a welcome to my new kindergarten students and their families. I cannot wait to meet you! You should have recieved a letter in the mail informing you of our open house time and your assigned fall interview time. Please bring your child with you to the interview. Please feel free to bring your child's supplies at this time as well.
At the open house/fall interviews you will have an opportunity to meet me, become familiar with our classroom, learn basic procedures, and gain general knowledge of our kindergarten classroom.
Enjoy the last few days of your summer and we will see you soon!

Online Coin Recognition Game
Many students are still having difficulty remembering the names and values of the four coins. Here is a link to an online game that is great for helping them practice this skill. We played it as a class today during math and we will be playing it in the computer lab in the future.

More pets
We had Diego's guinea pig, Snowball, visit our classroom on Friday. It was fun to learn about how to take care of a guinea pig.
We were also visited by Rosemary's dog Camila. The students enjoyed holding her and petting her.
We've had a blast meeting everyones pets. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to bring their pets to school. Click on the picture below to view photos from our latest pet visits.

Museum Trip
We had a great time visiting the Freeborn County Historical Museum, despite the heavy rain. The students thought the school was very interesting. They were amazed at how different it was from our own classroom today. Most students said their favorite place we visited was the jail. Ask your child about their favorite part of our trip.

We've Got Talent
Monday, May 6, 2013
The theme tomorrow is Entertainment!
Your child can share their talent with our class tomorrow. Some students have told me they are in dance or taekwando. These would be excellent talents to share with our class. They can share by performing for us or they can bring a picture or something that goes with their talent (i.e. dance shoes, an instrument, sports equipment, and etc). We look forward to being entertained tomorrow!

Today kicks off our countdown to summer!
ABC Countdown to summer!
Each day will be assigned a letter, beginning with the letter A, and working our way through to the letter Z, which will be the last day of school!
This is such an exciting time of year and this is a great way to keep your child engaged and learning!
Please keep your ABC schedule handy so you know what each new day is (this was sent home last week).
Todays theme: Bring a Stuffed Animal to School
The theme for tomorrow (Thursday, May 2) will be: Blowin' Bubbles (It could get interesting with the current weather situation but we will find a way to make it work!) Thank you to the families who have provided us with bubbles for the day. If you'd still like to donate bubbles to our class please send them with your child to school tomorrow.
The theme for Friday, May 3 is: Crazy Hair Day

Read In Day

We had a wonderful time celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday along with the finale of our I Love to Read month here at school. The kids snuggled up in their blankets and read books throughout the day. We also had some guest readers stop by our classroom. In the afternoon, we watched the Dr. Seuss movie Horton Hear's a Who. The day ended with an assembly in the gym to see if we met our school goal of reading 2,000 books in one month. It turns out we not only met our goal, but exceeded it by reading approximately 2,800 books! Our class contributing approximately 120 books. Because we met our reading goal we got to watch Mr. Sofio kiss a pig! Because we surpassed our reading goal, a teacher was also selected to kiss the pig. Mrs. Gjersvik, a second grade teacher here at Halverson was the lucky winner! We had a wonderful day celebrating Dr. Seuss and our love for reading! Click on the photo to view pictures from our fun day.
*Note: Additional pictures to come of Mr. Sofio and Mrs. Gjersvik kissing the pig :)

Shine
Kindergarten and First grade students in all 4 elementary schools were able to attend a wonderful play performance by the MNSU Theatre Department about bullying. The play Shine is a musical about a new student in school and the bullies she encountered. Something magical happened when kids in the group decided they didn’t want to be a part of this group of mean kids. They lost the gray color of the bully and were able to become the bright color they were meant to be. Shine helped students to understand what a bully is and demonstrated tools they can use when they face these same situations themselves.

100th Day of School!

We celebrated the 100th day of school today! We had a blast making 100th day gear to wear, listened to our guest reader Dr. Funk, counted to one hundred in many different ways, completed a 100th day packet, made a necklace with 100 fruitloops, and worked on 100 piece puzzles. Ask your child what their favorite activity was today. Click on our class picture to view photos from our fun day.
